If you don’t like the default effect Sound on your AT&T LG vu, now you can change the power on and off sound, the LG-Vu unoffical site offers some mp3 sound files downloads, then you can upload the files to the LG vu, about how to change the sound files, please check the tutorial below:

AT&T Cell Phones Faq - How To Change Power On/Off Sound On AT&T LG vu ?

1) Launch Bitpim
2) Go to LGAPP, Media, Midis, and Effect Sound
3) Look at two files in there - Power Up Final and Power Down Final
4) Download any sound or ring tone you like, and simply rename that ring tone to either PowerUpFinal or PowerDownFinal and replace that with the original file.
5) Restart your phone and you will notice the diff! and thats it your done!!!

Note: PowerUpFinal is the sound it would make when you turn on your phone. PowerDownFinal would make the sound when you shut off your phone. And the tones you use must be .mp3!!!

Im have uploaded some sound files, so try it out and feel free to upload any nice sound effect tones!!! if you think some of the ring tones are long, then you could always cut um. Enjoy!!!!

Updates: So if you want to have a short ringtone that would match the att animation, simple cut the powerupfinal to 5-7secs. and PowerdownFinal to 6 sec. Here is an example: Im using the M-60 as a start up and one missed call for off. You could download one missed call and m-60 gun from the bottom list.

Note: The update does not contain the config.xml or menu.xml files. Installing the update will not overwrite your current menu & config files, however, some of the new configuration options will not be available. Refer to ‘config3.xml’ for these new parameters.

If you have not made any changes to the config.xml or menu.xml files or if you want to start with a fresh configuration, use the gPhone3-xxxxx.zip file. Otherwise, use the gPhone3-Update.zip file if you have made changes and want to keep them.

We know the AT&T LG Vu only offers the dozen or so pre-set incoming text tones, maybe you can download free mp3 ringtones for you LG Vu, but set the ringtone size only less than 300kb. you can learn how to bypass the 300kb ringtone file size limit here. We share the tutorial will teach you how to change tone for incoming txt messages.

To use bitpim with the Vu set you phone to an lg vx8700 same as the shine.

Instructions:

1. Install software listed below
2. Hook up phone
3. Launch BitPim (if using EFS, skip to step 12)
4. BitPim should show “Other CDMA phone on COMx” (where x is the COM port being used)
5. Choose Edit, Settings
6. Change Phone Type to “LG-VX8700″ (this is the CDMA version Shine)
7. Click OK to close
8. Choose View, View Filesystem
9. Click the Filesystem icon
10. Click the expand button beside “/”
11. It will say “Retrieving” for a minute or two
12. Expand to the following directory: /LGAPP/Media/Midis/RingTone
13. Add whatever MP3 ringtones you want by right-clicking on RingTone folder and selecting “New File …”

And a few final things to note:

* You can also modify sounds in other folders but you can generally only replace existing ones (ie. the new files
must have the same name)
* There is still a size restriction of 300kB on the ringtone MP3s so you can’t use a full song
* You can bypass the Java security restrictions by modifying the .pol files under /LGAPP/Media/Java/cert/
